Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 beta?

The link given above is no longer available - it seems the author has changed the licence for hyph_en_AU. hyph_en_GB should suffice (i.e. this bug can be closed).

No, hyph_en_AU is still required: OO.o complains that hyphenation in not supported for Australian English (writing aids required).

We are closing this bug report because it lacks the information we need to investigate the problem, as described in the previous comments (i.e. was it fixed in 8.10 or 9.04). Please reopen it if you can give us the missing information, and don't hesitate to submit bug reports in the future. To reopen the bug report you can click on the current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to "New". Thanks again!

As shown in the screenshot below, hyphenation does not work for Australian English. The old hyphenation file for en_AU is not longer freely available from the site listed in the comments above. My proposed solution is to change /usr/share/myspell/infos/ooo/openoffice.org-hyphenation (line 7) to use en_GB for hyphenation:

from:
HYPH en AU hyph_en_AU
to:
HYPH en AU hyph_en_GB

Thanks for the screen shot, confirming that it exists in 9.04, and proposed fix. I'm marking as confirmed.

well, if we still wants to provide a dedicated en_AU hyphenation dictionary somebody needs to provide it in a suitable license.
The link the OP provided is not available anymore, somebody else knows where to find it?

Maybe just a symlink to the British dictionary would suffice?

just did so. I used a provided (so a virtual package), and did the very same thing we did for en-za.

  * [8f7583d] d/control.in: Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.8, no changes needed.
  * [4578b2a] d/helper.py: unblacklist hunspell-ru, we had the ack to take over
    the binary from src:hunspell-ru.

  * [ffc3fba] provide the en-au hyphenation dictionaries as a symlink to the
    British one. LP: #105879

  [ Gunnar Hjalmarsson ]
  * [fca7241] d/rules: rename dictionary files to include the country code in
