The jump to 1.7.12 is too high. It's two major releases and many tiny bugfixes in between. It would be nice to update git in next cycle, while debian is still frozen.

it takes a while to build git. Especially if you use UDD branch and it "helpfully" auto-removes CVS control dir which is used during unit tests. Anyway.... I disabled svn tests, because I think it is too late to jump two releases of git.

This bug was fixed in the package git - 1:1.7.10.4-1ubuntu1

---------------
git (1:1.7.10.4-1ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * Skip SVN test-suite to fix FTBFS with new svn. Fixed upstream, but
requires packaging new upstream release. (LP: #1056728)
