Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

when i open http://www.de.map24.com/ and click on the map on the right side (interactive, java-based map), firefox usually closes immediately, sometimes after 10 seconds, clicking on the map. just before the crash, the cpu-usage goes to almost 100%. i don't even get the "report a problem..." dialogue, but when i open firefox again, it asks me whether to restore the tabs.

TESTCASE:
1. open http://www.de.map24.com/
2. click on the map on the right side

i've got j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin installed. amd64 machine, ubuntu daily april 9th.

Thank you for your bug report. Can you please install sun-java6-plugin and than when thats done please run "sudo update-alternatives --config java" and choose the number beside java 6 that you installed Please comment on if this fixed it or not. I think this is the same problem that java6 fixed. that is why we backported it to dapper and edgy.

Changed in firefox:

well, sun-java6-plugin isn't available for amd64, just i386. shall i force the installation of the i386 package?

still there on feisty final.
but it seems to be an issue of j2re1.4-mozilla-plugin, as epiphany crashes on de.map24.com as well.

then please uninstall that ... and forcing installation of wrong
architecture files calls for crashes as well.

I have the same issue with blackdown java and facebook.com using AMD64 architecture and Feisty final.

"then please uninstall that" - well, there is no other java-plugin for firefox on amd64 architecture.

I also have the problem here on 2 64bits machines.
 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 06:17:24 UTC 2007 x86_64
I tried all 3 alternative I have under

sudo update-alternatives --config java
* 1 /usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1
          2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java
 + 3 /usr/lib/j2se/1.4/bin/java

but it does not change anything. Does firefox calls directly java ?

Hi,

perhaps a duplicate of bug #47763 ?

High importance, I would also say, because in fact, there is no other java plugin for AMD64.

Still present on Gutsy Beta AMD64 (updates until Oct. 5th) with j2re1.4-mozilla (1:0ubuntu6): I can reproduce it with Epiphany, CPU usage goes up to 100% and then epiphany crashes.
