Bug Description

Set script permissions to run as a program, opened it and allowed it to run. Seemingly did nothing. Next I ran it in terminal and briefly saw terminal window before it closed and nothing more happened. Using fully updated fresh install of Ubuntu 12.10 beta1.

Fixed it - other files used for install needed to be given permission to run as a program, including the restarter.

Could you tell us, how you downloaded the game? And how you unpacked it?

In the binary versions, the executable flags should all be set ok.

Downloaded via Humble Indie Bundle as Tar.Gz, unpacked to desktop using Archive Manager and attempted to run install script (nikki.sh). Executable flages had to be set manually in order to install.

Correction - I did not download it as part of Humble Indie Bundle, I purchased directly from http://buy.joyridelabs.de/

We discussed this via email and the issue was clarified:
nikki.sh is not set to be an executable.

I cannot reproduce this on Arch Linux 32bit. Both 32bit and 64bit archives contain +x nikki.sh files.

Perhaps cptNightrain's archiving utility has a "security feature" that removes executable permissions from extracted files (pure speculation)?

From searching launchpad, it seems it may be related to this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/1041570

I followed the case given for that bug but wasn't able to reproduce it. However, I also tried extracting the Nikki tarball again and found that all the files were given permission to execute this time, so it seems a recent update may have fixed the bug.
