Bug Description

Binary package hint: sensors-applet

When sensors-applet is added to the panel and then hddtemp is installed, the applet has to be removed and re-added to panel to recognize the newly available hddtemp daemon. It would be nice if it would recognize the daemon automatically, for example when the config dialog is opened.

You shouldn't need to remove and re-add it - just log out and log back in to restart it, or do a killall sensors-applet from the panel, then click reload when the dialog box pops up telling you it died - this way you can keep your original settings. To make sensors-applet detect new stuff on the fly (instead of at startup) would make it too processor intensive for nomal use - ie. to have it continously scanning for new additions..

I see your point about the high CPU load... but couldn't this be checked when the user opens the settings dialog, or switches between the tabs on the settings dialog. That would make this possible:
- user installs hddtemp (because he read somewhere "install hddtemp and you see when our disk gets too hot")
- user opens sensor config dialog
- sensor-applet quickly checks for hddtemp etc.
- hddtemp sensor is displayed

And even if user has the dialog already open when he installs hddtemp, he just has to "fiddle" with the dialog (i.e. switch tabs) and presto! he sees the new sensor.

Of course even better would be if hddtemp would somehow notify the sensors-applet that it has been started :-) not sure if this is possible (maybe hddtemp could drop a lock file somewhere, and the applet monitors the lock file location with inotify?)

I realize that this is probably much work (and "bloat") for a very small detail, but it's these subtle details that show the user jow much effort has been put into the system.

My sensors-applet does not detect hddtemp. It is listed in the border Sensors but I can't visualize it in the Gnome panel.
The sensor of the processor is in the panel.
What can I do to place the sensor hddtemp in the panel?

@DouglasCaixeta: If the drive is listed in the Sensors list, simply enable it by checking the Enable checkbox.

Thanks Alex,
I already fix this.
