Bug Description

I often want to check which window I've open in an application so I click on the application on the launcher .eg Terminal, clicking on it zooms out of my desktop to the 2-3 terminals I've open. when I go to click on the application the applications lock and freeze up,there is no way around this but to hard reboot machine.

another way to trigger this is to alt tab though applications, zoom out and zoom into an application and flick to a webapp I've running.

to stop this happening today I've:
1) removed sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unity-team-staging-quantal.list
2) run updates
3) Run this removed sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/unity-team-staging-quantal.list
This was on the advice of popey

This has cut down on the freezing but not gotten rid of it all

It is the scale plugin, but I don't think that's the right bug.

I don't recall seeing anyone else report freezes with scale. Only freezes with nvidia and other plugins: bug 815996, bug 1032276.

This could potentially be due to extra compiz plugins you may have enabled. Could you run the command: unity --reset and see if it fixes this?

(Isn't "unity --reset" obsolete, in Quantal, after the gsettings transition? You might have to run

  dconf reset -f /org/compiz/profiles/unity/

to accomplish the same, now.)

@Laura yes, unity --reset is long gone. You can try this now

$ dconf reset -f /org/compiz ;sleep 2; unity

Omer I ran the comment as suggested and that resulted in another crash - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1052814

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 1052690 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
