i recorded a screencast .. the first segment shows how if you focus another window it focus's to skype .. and the second one shows if you're busy in another window the launcher wiggles ..

will see if a increased log can tell me something .. this is pure assumption but i believe the only time the application focus's the main window is when the indicator-applet-skype.py is run and there is an existing indicator-applet-skype instance .. my assumption is that the sandbox is firing it up all the time and therefore calling Skype.Client.Focus, the system monitor will only show 2 cause indicator-applet-skype.py only runs once, and every other time just sets focus. (this is the desired functionality cause firing the launcher should bring focus to the application .. but only once and then it should exit, or keep indicator-applet-skype.py open ..

Oh, shannon-netforge beat me :)
I just recorded same screencast. And I add that if you close main window it fires up again.

Same issue for me using Xubuntu 12.04 / XFCE.
After closing main Skype window, it re-appears after a few seconds.
Let me know what logs / output you need

I can confirm what was said in comment #5. This may be a legacy issue as I've used skype-wrapper since the first release and previous versions you were always instructed to set it up on boot to get it to run. As soon as I disabled that and rebooted it worked as expect.

So for anyone else with the issue, do as R3m suggested, ensure skype-wrapper doesn't exist in any startup application and you'll be fine.

thanks guys for the suggestions, you were correct, the new version of skype-wrapper intelligently waits for skype to be running and then wraps it up .. but it didn't check if a skype-wrapper instance was already running .. sorted it out .. the new fix will gracefully degrade for those who have used skype-wrapper pre 0.6

I'm also affected by this bug. Shannon, in which version of skype-wrapper will the fix land?
Also, deactivating skype-wrapper in Startup Applications fixes the problem, but how do I then get skype to autostart on boot? If I deactivate the entry, I have to start skype manually after startup.

Complicating the situation is the fact that I have two skype icons in the Messaging Menu, and that I use a custom profile location for skype (realised via skype-wrapper's start-skype-cmd-parameters): only the first icon starts skype correctly (I suspect this one is skype-wrapper's), and the second one start vanilla skype, i.e. without a valid profile.

@Christoph
you can autostart skype with this entry in the autostart section skype --dbpath=<path to profile>
Skype-wrapper will connect automatically.
