Bug Description
Binary package hint: update-manager
Currently there is no free space check for regular updates. This should be added so that the same code as in the release-upgrader is used to perform a free space check for "/" and "/boot" etc.

I agree, this problem just occured to me.
30 updates to install, and it breaks in the middle.
dpkg --configure -a && apt-get -f dist-upgrade fixed it, but it's quite annoying, especially because the cryptic error message of update-manager gave no clue there was no disk space (other console messages confirmed it though).
