Thanks for reporting this bug.

Was during an upgrade from lucid to precise?

Indeed a prerm existed for dhcp3-server in lucid, and not in precise. The prerm is likely failing because dhcp3-server is not running.

Can you check whether it is running (sudo service dhcp3-server status) and, if not, try to start it (sudo service dhcp3-server start)?

Hello,

1. The bug occurred during an upgrade from Lucid to Precise. I regret I
did not pay full attention during the upgrade as I was busy with other
issues (my fault). Note I upgraded a EEE laptop and my main laptop.

2. Checking the dhcp3-server status responds with "unrecognised service".
I have the /dhcp3 directory with "dhclient.conf dhclient-enter-hooks.d
dhclient-exit-hooks.d dhcpd.conf" files. This is on both laptops.

3. Cannot start this service (as is unrecognised).

4. At present I cannot download from Ubuntu Software center on my main
laptop as it says my package catalogue is "broken" (I think this is an
unrelated problem). Trying the "repair" option fails.

The error diagnostics are in an attached file. It mentions attempting to
upgrade the DHCP3 package and failing. This information may be of help to
you.

5. Other information/question. On both laptops I still have a /dhcp
directory (and files). If DHCP3 is properly installed should not this
older software be removed?

Yours in ignorance,

Ernest Waddington
