Bug Description

I start skype-wrapper via Startup applications... in Ubuntu 12.04. I do not have empathy installed. I also autostart Pidgin. SKype starts offline an I must manually set it online (either through messaging menu or via skype itself).

It also comes online when I suspend and resume the computer.

Just some questions.

1. Have you uninstalled empathy and telepathy/mission-control?
2. If not have you set up an account in empathy?

2. I did have an Empathy account. I still have it in my home directory (I have not purged empathy). When I had emapthy installed and it started automatically, skype started online.

I assume you have installed the latest version from the ppa. Try to disable the global online status in the skype-wrapper-settings. At the moment skype-wrapper heavily relies on empathy for the global online status.

Yes, version 6.4 as of now.

Disabling global online status works, but kind of defeats one of the reasons for skype-wrapper, no? (not that it matters much to me, I am always online and use skype-wrapper because of its messaging menu integration and notifications)

I know, :-( I will have a look. Since we already have everything in place for 0.6.5 I'm trying to fix this for 0.6.6.

The thing that I noticed is that Pidgin works just fine w/o empathy and changes its status when you set it in the indicator-messages menu.
So I have a suggestion of taking a look on pidgin's source code, so we can find out the way it handles status. Or maybe there is a plugin that integrates pidgin, which does that? I don't know...
Empathy can replace pidgin, but it lacks functionality so badly, I can't stay more than an hour with it.

We are trying to completely removing dependency on empathy by implemening an own solution, it's on our radar

Hi
Sorry there won't be any fixes for 12.04 because I still have to adapt Skype wrapper to 12.10 and beyond.
You should go to skype-wrapper settings (just search your apps) and there is a option to deactivate the usage of the system wide online status
