Bug Description

Upgraded to Calibre 0.8.67 on Intel MacBook Pro and the system started locking up. Each time the system was slow to respond and then quickly just froze. I had to hard power each time.
I rolled back to 0.8.66 and problems stopped.

Suggestions?

The only change in 0.8.67 w.r.t. 0.8.66 on OS X that could possibly
cause this is the use of libusb to detect USB devices. A bit of googling
shows people having issues with certain USB devices and libusb on OS X
but no general computer hangs. Can you provide some more information?
What USB devices do you have? What veersion of OS X? 32bit or 64 bit?

Another thing to check: Is there a memory leak, that is, is the memory
being used increasing while calibre is running.

A couple of other people are reporting problems with detecting devices on MacBooks, so it looks like it is an issue with libusb. Here is a build with a different version of libusb (libusbx 1.0.12), see if that fixes it:

If it doesn't then I will revert to the old method for detecting devices on OS X for the next release. That will mean that there will be no support for MTP based devices on OSX, but, I don't see any other solution.

Thanks Kovid. I am traveling at the moment but will try it tomorrow.

Thank you for your efforts.
