I'm able to reproduce the bug. gnome-mplayer doesn't react anymore and its CPU goes up to 100%.

since the dupe had the apport info but this parent bug didn't, i've apport-collected all the info. on my system i certainly have major lag. i wouldn't say it's a complete freeze but if you're a quick-moving user as many are, it will appear that way. i noticed that the language dropdown is particularly slow.

If I kill all the at-spi2-something processes the preferences are usable again. Maybe this issue is related to #1048572 but I'm not sure.

Confirmed. Killing those processes makes the preferences dialog fully
responsive straight after loading for me.

So let's reassign it then. If at-spi2-core is not the right package, please reassign to the correct one.
