misc = NO_PRESENCE imply jack does not has jack detection circuit

if you have a hd front audio panel, you need to select front audio panel type to hda instead of ac97

I've discovered that the connector inside the computer was not seated properly on the mother board for the front headphone jack. I've now got sound coming out of the headphones.

However the sound continues to come out of the desktop speakers even when the headphones are plugged in and sound is coming out of the headphones.

have you select the correct front audio panel type in bios setup?

The driver enable unsolicited event for auto mute when nly hda front audio panel (without misc = NO_PRESENCE) and there is an auto mute switch for user to enable/disable the line out jack at rear panel

I had a similar problem, though when I plugged my headphones in, sound would play out of both them and the speakers.

Wasn't present in Ubuntu before 12.04 but seems fixed in the beta for 12.10. I can't find any trace of the problem. Can you confirm if you have this issue on a live USB of the 12.10 beta?
