Bug Description
I think this is related or even the same as Bug #494099. After sound settings setup in 5.1 or 7.1 mode start music playback (I use Banshee most frequently, but also tried in Rhythmbox). If tracks are swithed automatically one after another in playlist (in random mode), for some time everything is OK. If I switch to next track manually even once, subwoofer channel disappears and I have to set sound settings again to some value and then again to 5.1 to enable it. The most interesting thing - subwoofer channel disappear in Rhythmbox doesn't affect Banshee when they are running at the same time. After disappear in Banshee, I launched VLC with a movie and subwoofer channel was active there without any setup.
I have 2 outputs (analog and digital) on default sound card and several sound inputs on 3 different devices. Only one of inputs is set up as active.
I have 12.04 upgraded from 11.10 (don't remember which of 11.04 or 11.10 was installed as new OS).

Michael F., could you please provide the information following https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/DebuggingSo undProblems ?
As well, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested and remove the tag: testing
needs-upstream-
This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text: testing
needs-upstream-
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: fixed-upstream fixed-upstream- VERSION- NUMBER
kernel-
kernel-
where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: bug-exists- upstream bug-exists- upstream- VERSION- NUMBER
kernel-

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags: unable- to-test- upstream unable- to-test- upstream- VERSION- NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.
Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.
