When installing Ubuntu the 'Forward' button does not advance screens unless mouse moved or tabbed out/back

Bug Description

Boot from Ubuntu cd, select install. When live desktop presented click on install Ubuntu. Select the correct language entry from the list and click on "Forward". Do NOT move the mouse outside of the "Forward" button area. On the next screen (Where are you?) clicking on "Forward" does nothing - you must move cursor focus outside the button area and then the mouseclick will work. The same applies to the subsequent screens.

Also on the "Where are you" screen, you cannot tab out of the "Selected city" field, you must click on one of the buttons to continue.

Noticed in 6.06LTS, 6.10 and last night's daily build. On i36 platform and AMD64. On physical computers and inside VM Workstation and VirtualBox.

I won't say it's a bug, but it's annoying ;o)

This is a GTK bug, and a long standing one. Have a look at bug 22930 and corresponding Gnome bug for more info.

Translation = "should have been fixed a long time ago".

I sincerely hope this gets fixed...

After further searching, I found that there indeed exists a software workaround. Despite GTK's bug you can still have the initial installer work properly:

I agree that this bug is really a put-off to a newbie installing Ubuntu for
the first time. It took me quite a while to guess what was needed to get
the dialog to go Forward. Not a good first impression.

Yeah, I know, I've seen the workaround comment and will apply it if it works. (Please stop commenting on this duplicate bug. :-) )

If you fix it, the complaints will stop. Simple reasoning.

I wasn't asking for people not to complain; I was asking them not to do so on a duplicate bug. (Note the warning that Launchpad gives you when you try to do that.)

In any case, it's worked around for the next ubiquity upload now; in fact that was already in progress before your comment. The comments that help me are those that provide information, like the one linked to by "Kjmph" above.
