Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

Hi all,

Since the kernel 2.6.20.13 and still in 2.6.20.14 version, when I boot my PC, there is a step which is very slow (it wasn't before).
As there is no message with the new usplash, I started in recovery mode (single) to see which step it was.
So it seems to be at the moment it is written "configuring network interfaces". After that, the system seems to work normaly.

I have two ethernet cards : one integrated (gigabyte GA-7VT600 1394) & a realtek RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ pci card.

I have tried a test. I disconnected my ethernet cable and then the boot process was even slower.

As the release time is soon, I will stay tuned. So if you need more details, just tell me.

I'm having the exact same issue with my vaio laptop vgn-s1xp (network card is an Intel 2200BG). Being connect or not does not change anything.

I have the same problem.
Wheh I boot my Laptop, Acer TravelMate 8104WLMi, the boot's sequences is slow or it stopped over Configuring network interfaces step.
If I push CTRL+ALT+CANC the sequence restart and the system works perfectly.

Same problem, also, when finally logging into gnome, the keyring-login appears for a very short time, and then minimizes back to the lower bar, without me being able to open it back up again. However, after just typing my keyring password into thin air, my network interface suddenly connects to the network. That's odd, isn't it? Possible solution: I think the wep- or wpa-passkey should not be kept in the keyring, as it can't be accessed during boot-time. That's causing the startup delay, and the problem while logging into gnome.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
