Bug Description

Please, refer to the attached screenshot to understand what I am saying. Lets say the original folder name was "test folder" which can easily fit below the icon in one line. Then I want to change it with something really big, lets say, "test folder - fffffffffffff" then as you can see from the screenshot, the next line is not visible when you are actually renaming the item.
The complete name is visible though when you are done editing the name and you hit enter.

I am going to give it a try.

But help me out with the desired behaviour. I guess the textbox size must grow larger as the name gets bigger.

It seems though there's a limit on the filename size which can be seen. I understand that's intentional, but the entire name should be seen when editing it, right?

José, if I remember correctly, Nautilus has this solved in case you need a reference :)

I'd like to have some more time with this, if that's possible. I'm still working on it... well, except for the last three weeks, in which I've been enjoying my well-deserved vacation :P

GTK+ development is new for me, so I'm using this bug to familiarize myself with it. Maybe I should sneak a look at Nautilus code. I guess that's another way to learn after all.

Is that ok?

Ah yeah, that's fine. Just didn't want the status to scare away other
potential fixers if you had abandoned it.

This bug is closely related to the way the icons are laid out (see bug #1076504) and the solution makes the whole thing look quite funny.

It's not ready yet, but you can see what happens when the name of an element it's getting larger: it shifts all the other elements.

Maybe the bug #1076504 should be fixed before if that's going to be the new layout policy.

Ups! And there it goes the after-renaming screen capture.

And Merry Christmas to you all!

As I said in a previous comment, this still may look a bit clumsy with the current layout process, but it'll be perfectly fine with the fixed item width policy.
