Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I am using Ubuntu feisty, with gnome panel 2.18.0 with the following uname: Linux xxxx 2.6.20-13-generic #2 SMP Sun Mar 25 00:21:25 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Already since I began to run feisty a couple of months ago, I cannot add any custom applications via the "Add to Panel" option.

What to do:
1. right click on Gnome Panel
2. select "Add to Panel"
3. Select "Custom Application Launcher"
4. Fill in the "Create Launcher" dialog:
-Type: application (but can be anything)
-Name: any
-application name: any, but let's do something Java-like, like "java -jar /home/bram/applications/JabRef-2.2.jar"
-Comment: leave empty.

5. Press "OK"

I am now back at the "Add to Panel" dialog. However, my custom application is not appearing anywhere. Not on the gnome-panel, not in the "Add to Panel" dialog itself. Also nothing happens when I press "Close" in the "Add to Panel" dialog.

Well, it doesn't work for me on my desktop.

I send you a link to a screenshot (3.2 Mb) to prove this. Note that it
is packaged in a tar file.

Closely watch the icons on the desktop before and after the custom
application was added. No change at all: no custom icon added for my
application.

Here is the link:

I would surely like to provide you with any more information on this,
but I would like to know how I can do this at best. Can I inspect the
contents of gnome panel by any other means?

thanks in advance,
Bram
