after fresh install in vm, the software update crashed and it does not start...

This is happening because the symlinks that the DistUpgrade module uses to find the janitor module (and the NvidiaDetector module) are not being installed by the package.

Crashed after clicking "do partial upgrade" and before any package was installed.

Guest: XUbuntu 12.10 (upgraded from 12.04)

Installed Ubuntu quantal 12.10 and clicked on Software Updater -> "do partial upgrade" and it crashed. It does not allow me to do partial upgrade, same error.

I've been able to partial upgrade without problems in quantal. I'm not sure how to reproduce.
