Is this is something I can test on my Ubuntu? As I don't see a .deb I'm not
sure what to do.

Moving back to 'In Progress' until license issues are resolved - is there an upstream bug report we can link here?

No upstream bug report (yet) - I have emailed upstream directly asking for the licensing details of the templates since the project as far as development is concerned seems to be pretty much a one-man show.

Due to a policy change (https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-motu/2007-November/002684.html) I set the status to 'Triaged'. Set it back to 'In Progress' once you have a source package up for review.

Some REVU uploads were lost in a re-setup. Sorry, please re-submit.

yamal, are you still working on this? I'll have a go if not considering that SABnzbd+ 0.3.0 was just released.

Installing (and thus packaging?) SABnzbdplus 0.3.0 has become very easy:

sudo apt-get install python python-cherrypy python-cheetah
python-elementtree python-yenc python-celementtree python-feedparser
unrar unzip par2

unzip sabnzbd-0.3.0.zip
cd sabnzbd-0.3.0/
python SABnzbd.py

(or 'python SABnzbd.py -b0 -d' to run as a daemon and without browser startup)

Thanks, I figured it would be some low hanging fruit for my first package ;)

One question though, will there be any problem with depending on unrar,
as it's a non-free package in multiverse?

I have had a working package for a very long time; in fact ever since it was first uploaded to revu. Unfortunately, the website templates in sabnzbd at the time lacked proper licensing, and thus no motu would advocate. The upstream author (and apparent copyright holder of the templates) has apparently abandoned the project, creating a deadlock.

I have meanwhile been monitoring alternative templates (nova) to see if these could be used. Now that sabnzbdplus is finally registered as a proper project rather than a random set of (sometimes questionable quality) hacks and has come out with a full release, I will check this one out (looks promising since it includes a copyright statement on the templates) and update my package accordingly. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Please stop wasting time duplicating my work; whilst installing sabnzbd for personal use never was hard (as demonstrated above), there's alot more to it when creating a proper package that complies with all the relevant demands.

Chill out, there was no activity on this bug for about six weeks, and I *did* ask if you were still working on it, did I not? I'll leave you to it.

Well, installing SABnzbd 2.5.0 was very hard: one page long
instruction of difficult stuff. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=320475

Installing SABnzbdplus 3.0.0 is now very easy, as demonstrated above.

Is there something I can test-install with "sudo apt-get install"?

Thanks,

Yamal,

On licensing, the author of SABnzbd / SABnzbdplus 0.3.0 agrees with
you that there are no licensing problems:

QUOTE
Actually there never was a licence problem, since the original author
considered the templates to be part of the program. Implicitly this
must so because SourceForge requires you to use any other popular open
source licences.
I had aready added an GPL statement to the "Default" templates.
/QUOTE

So, no licensing problems. SABnzbd 0.3.0 can packaged into Ubuntu,
which is great.

If you have something I can (test) install with "sudo apt-get
install", please let me know and I will test it.

Thanks!

I don't mean to hassle you jcfp, but are you still working on this? We missed Hardy, and I'm very keen to see SAB get into Intrepid - there hasn't been any activity here or on REVU for some weeks now. If I can help you at all, or if you'd like me to take over packaging this, I'm very willing. Let me know.

No problem Iain. Yes it's still in the works; there's a quite decent package for latest stable version [=0.3.4] on my ppa, and an up-to-date one for the latest test release [0.4.0-beta4] on my pc which will be put on revu very soon.

First results: Installation goes OK, however unrar and par2 don't go well:

Last warnings (clear)
2009-02-22 14:07:51,726 WARNING unrar binary... NOT found
2009-02-22 14:17:44,647 WARNING [newsunpack] Missing expected file: blabla.Divx.blabla.avi => unrar error?

http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/sabnzbdplus says that sabnzbd "recommends" par2 and unrar, not "depends". This results in the warning and problems above. :-(

I would say par2 and unrar are really needed for normal operation of SABnzbd / sabnzbdplus.

Can that be fixed?
