This is a result of an API change in software center:

    message:
      - Added support for parsing the "website" field from commercial apps.
      - Made a not minor refactoring to the Xapian doc builder, as per mvo's request.

So at minimum, software-center needs to add a Breaks against the current version of apt-xapian-index. But I don't know if this breaking is intentional. Can someone from the software center side have a look at this and decide what needs to be done?

affects: apt-xapian-index (Ubuntu) → software-center (Ubuntu)

No Breaks should be needed; this a-x-i plugin is shipped by software-center itself.

My guess at a possible fix is http://paste.ubuntu.com/1067313/

i have software-center 5.3.3.1 and apt-xapian-index 0.44ubuntu5 (ie: quantal system made up to date just now) and just got this error again after login after reboot. Got dialogue saying it was already reported and it opened browser window to here; got here and it says it's fixed in releases I have so thought it might be worth mentioning it still happened to me :-)

Hmm, with today's updates, I do not get this error. Software Center 5.3.3.1.

Rachel, it seems you rebooted with the update and still get the error? I wonder if you could try again today just to verify, as it is working for me now? Thanks in advance!!
