Bug Description

When we install Ubuntu in Cuba we select during the install process that our country is Cuba and that our language is Spanish, the problem is that our personal video folder in Ubuntu is called "Vídeo", but in Cuba we pronounce and write it as "Video" not "Vídeo", problem is in the "í". People in Spain pronounce Vídeo, but that is in Spain not in Cuba, so I think that if we install Ubuntu and select Cuba as our country during the install process our video folder should be renamed to Video.
I hope you understand this bug, in Cuba we pronounce and write: Video not Vídeo, that should be the name of our video folder. So the small fix is:

Rename video folder to "Video" if we select Cuba as our country during the install process. I think this bug should be submited here. Sorry about my English, I speak Spanish.
Greetings and thanks for you work.

Thanks a lot for reporting this, however a Papercut must affect the majority of users, and localisation issues, by their nature, cannot do this. I have, however, forwarded this to the localisation team.

Changed in hundredpapercuts:
status: New → Invalid

Changed in ubuntu-translations:
assignee: nobody → Ubuntu Spanish Translators (ubuntu-l10n-es)
status: New → Triaged
importance: Undecided → Low

The same is true in Colombia, and I would guess most of Latin America.
"Vídeo", apparently, is only preferred in Spain (about 9% of the Spanish-speaking population worldwide).

I agree, in Latin America *Video* es written and pronounced with a simple
«i», and not using the «í» with accent mark.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This change should be discussed with upstream GNOME translators, as we follow some conventions for translating certain terms and this is one of them.

If you wish, please start a topic in the GNOME Spanish translation team's mailing list at <email address hidden> to start discussing this change and apply it where most original translations come from and all Linux distros can benefit from the correction.

Thanks!
