modem manager not working

modem manager not working at all in ubuntu 12, only works with wired connection, battery manager not working says not present.
very very angry not worth anything...buggier than a rotten log.

ubuntu 12 has more bugs than a rotten log, not worth the magazine it came on...

Thank you for your assistance.
I believe I have found the problem, The two copies of the ubuntu I have been using seem to be malfunctioning as the "file" "edit" etc menu's which are supposed to be at the top of each window are not there.
I apologise for any inconvenience.
