Bug Description

I attempt to open the LinuxMint WIKI, but am greeted with "FORBIDDEN". I am then friendly, and in the full spirit of OPEN SOURCE, informed that I do not have "PERMISSION" to access the apparently very UNOPEN WIKI. I guess there must be some secret information on the LinuxMint WIKI that someone does not want me to know (or some S*** like that)!

WELL!!!! IN THAT CASE, I HAVE DECIDED NOT TO PERMIT LINUXMINT OR ANY OF ITS SECRET MINIONS ACCESS TO MY COMPUTER.

YOU HAVE A VERY PRETTY- LOOKING THING-A-MA-JIG HERE, BUT YOU APPARENTLY WANT TO KEEP SOME THINGS SECRET, AND NOT OPEN. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT "LINUX" PRETTY MUCH EQUATED WITH "OPEN". OOOOOPS! I GUESS I WAS WRONG, AT LEAST IN THE CASE OF (LINUX?) MINT!

WELL, YOU JUST GO RIGHT AND KEEP WHATEVER SECRETS YOU WANT TO KEEP (OR WHATEVER), JUST DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE, BECAUSE

YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS MY COMPUTER!!!!!!!!

HAVE A GREAT DAY, AND MAY THE FORCE BE ALWAYS WITH YOU OR SOME SHIT LIKE THAT). I PLAN TO SPEND THE DAY TRYING OUT OTHER (REAL) LINUX DISTRIBUTIONS, NOT ONES THAT MERELY PRETEND TO BE.

OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE. OPEN SOURCE.
(AS LONG AS WE DECIDE TO GIVE YOU OUR PERMISSION)

IF I SAY "PRETTY PLEASE" WILL YOU GIVE ME YOUR GRACIOUS PERMISSION?
NO THANKS I'LL GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, WHERE I AM MADE TO FEEL WELCOME.

AS THEY SAY IN FRANCE "FOOK TOI".

There is more than one wiki and none of them is an official Linuxmint.
So which one is this that is troubling you? (link... pretty please)

"blah, blah, blah, OPEN SOURCE, more blah, blah"
Yes. Pretty much all of Linux and Mint is open source. If it's not open, often it's because there is a company behind it that doesn't release the source and there is little a single distribution can do about this. Some things are not open and free like logos and names.
I would be surprised if FSF isn't a registered brand.

Thank you for your reply, I apologize for the language in my earlier email
and bug report. the "WIKI" to which I refer is on the Bookmark bar when I
open Firefox from Mint Gloria. There are also other links such as "Forum",
"Software ..." etc., and they open without a problem. I do in fact like
Mint Gloria and am considering upgrading to the newest release. It is
elegantly designed and easy to use. I am, however, just beginning to learn
how to use Mint to its fullest, and thus the interest in the WIKI.
Congratulations to you and the Mint Team for your work.

Again, thanks for your reply. Please accept my apologies for the tone of
my earlier communication and the language therein.

"FORBIDDEN"
The reason you got that message is that the earlier wiki got, irreparably, sabotaged and therefore closed. The message is probably a standard message from the original server that can't find the wiki for you.
Gloria is a bit dated so this is most likely not the only link that is dead.

You are off course most welcome to the world of Mint, but you must understand that Mint of all distros is one of the more corporate friendly. The functionality you get out of the box with mint comes from the acceptance and distribution of closed source. For good and bad. All of the Mint teams production as coding goes if probably open source.
I believe the distro of choice for Richard Stallman himself is the one I mentioned in my earlier post.

Here is a new wiki that some of the users has started:
https://sites.google.com/site/mintwiki/

I call this case closed and change the status of the bug to invalid as Gloria isn't supported any longer.

Good Luck!

Oskar

Thanks again. I shall try the distro you mentioned, but I really like Mint
and will be updating to the newest release. Again, I find Mint to be very
elegant and easy to use. I got a little carried away earlier about the
Open Source thing; I don't really care too much about that, as long as I
have something that works for me. Best Wishes. Keith
