Bug Description

When creating a new smart playlist, if I use the "Artist" field, the playlist appears completely empty. Other fields such as "Year" seem to work properly.

I do not have this bug. Are you sure you spelled the artist correctly?

I tried several times, with different artists. I even tried to create a new smart playlist with just one artist (ex: Queen), or putting the name in quotation marks, with the same result: the playlist is completely empty.

I'm using beatbox 0.4 in ubuntu 12.04. Tell me if you need more information.

What parameters are you using in your smart playlist (you could take a screenshot of the smart playlist editor to show this)? What happens if you copy the artist (ctl+c in song editor) and paste it into the smart playlist editor? What happens if you use "contains" operator instead of "is" in the smart playlist editor?

Ok, let's do this. I took screenshots of all the steps you told me. I uploaded them here: http://imgur.com/a/dcB7s

1st image: Just a screenshot showing one album by Queen (proving that it exists in my library)
2nd image: editing the song (I copied the artist name from the artist field, in order to paste it in the smart playlist, just to make sure that there aren't any misspellings)
3rd image: creating a new smart playlist. (I pasted the artist name there)
4th image: the playlist. It's empty.

I just thought that maybe my system language (catalan) might be interfering. If so, it would be the first software that doesn't work properly because of the translation.

What do you think?

PS: I just noticed that when I create a smart playlist, if I select "contains" or "doesn't contain", and then I try to edit the playlist again, the option is set to "is", so it's impossible to save a playlist with the other options.

PS2: Creating playlists by "Album" also shows the same problem.

Aha! Very helpful, thank you. You were exactly right that the the system language is interfering. This is due to some horribly stringly-typed code. In the future it will be redone to support translations with no problems, but for now I have the translation turned off so it will work. I just pushed out a fix that should be in the PPA within a day. It should fix all your smart playlist problems. Thanks for the report!
