Sound applet missing functionality

Bug Description

The sound applet is missing some functionality. Middle click does not mute, nor does double clicking on the applet bring up the channels.

As a side note: is it possible to add an option to use the old sound applet? Having the sound control integrated into the applet seems a bit too much, at least for me. Having the option to keep it a simple a volume control applet is very appealing.

Ubuntu 11.04 64bit
Cairodock v3.0.1
gnome2 with compiz

Hello and thank you for this bug report!

Strange. Is it working if you do a *left*-click / Mute (on the sound menu widget)

I think I fix this bug with the rev 2412 => https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cairo-dock-team/cairo-dock-plug-ins/plug-ins/revision/2412/alsaMixer/src/applet-notifications.c
Can you confirm that double-clicking does nothing *only* if we didn't open the menu of the applet (with a right click on the applet)?

Yes, maybe.
*@ fabounet*: what do you thing about that?

Note that you can already disable this sound menu (and having the old sound applet) by removing indicator-sound:
    $ sudo apt-get purge indicator-sound

PS: if you remove 'indicator-sound' is the mute feature working?

Sorry for the late reply.

 left click->mute does not work.

Double clicking continues to do nothing. With the applet sound control window open or closed. I'll try removing the sound indicator and post back when I can.

I should add that right clicking -> adjust channels, brings up control center for ubuntu 11.04

Purging indicator-sound from my system, middle click now mutes the sound accordingly. However, it has removed the sound indicator from my task panel (as expected) so I am reinstalling indicator sound.

Double clicking on the applet with indicator sound removed still brings up the ubuntu control center.

I think that mute has been added in Ubuntu 11.10
I know for sure that it was not present in the first versions of the
sound-indicator.

Do you have a "mute" entry in the menu of the panel ? and does it work ?
if you don't have, then it's just that the dock shouldn't add a "mute"
entry because the sound-indicator just can't mute.

"Double clicking on the applet with indicator sound removed still brings
up the ubuntu control center."
here again, maybe the Gnome control center didn't have a "sound" entry
available from the command line. which could explain why you only have
the main page and not the one related to sound.

Upgrading Ubuntu to 12.04 is maybe a good idea (since it's a LTS) ;-)

"is it possible to add an option to use the old sound applet?"
that's non sense, if sound-indicator is available, we use it,
otherwise we don't. The only difference is that the dialog on click is
replaced by a menu, but everything else is the same (provided the
sound-indicator works correctly of course ^_^)

I do have a mute entry in the menu of the panel, and it does indeed work.

I am having the same problems with xubuntu 11.04. double click brings up gnome control center and middle click (or right click and select mute) does nothing. If I left click then open sound preferences and select mute the icon in the applet gets updated (when I uncheck mute icon gets updated as well).

This definitely looks like an issue with *buntu 11.04.

Invalidated, because it's actually a bug (or a missing feature) in the Ubuntu 11.04 sound service.
