NOTE #1: Unity vs Unity 2d issue -- WEBCAM fails in either BUT in Unity 2d there is no picture but at least screen goes from
                    pure black to colors

NOTE #2: I will file a separate bug ... but I think the solution to this BUG is related to Adobe Flash Player NOT working also in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 OS. MANY people have attached to that Ubuntu Bug AND DOZENS of bugs marked duplicates of it.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/410407

Again, only x64 versions of Ubuntu affected.

I also have screenshots that I can send showing FLASH PLAYER -and- Webcam work in Debian 6 x64 -but- both fail in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 with Unity.

I also have a screenshot I can send that shows FLASH PLAYER -is- mouse clickable in in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 (even though the webcam still doesn't work.

I wanted to file these 2 bugs because Debian and Ubuntu or so closely related that perhaps some DEV can figure out why both these 2 issues fail in Ubuntu 12.04 x64 release yet BOTH work in Debian 6 x64 release?

There are ALOT of people having these 2 problems right now.
thanks

The other bug I filed is: [Bug 1003746]

I have a guess that both are related and possibly a cause of the move to multi-arch and to Unity.
Multi-arch because it seems they are both affecting x64 users from what I can seee
and Unity (at least for the webcam problems) because symptoms are less pronounced if you switch from Unity to Unity 2d or one of the Gnome options.

NOTE - when I filed these 2 bugs for some reason Launchpad marked them as Firefox related.

THEY ARE NOT... cheese, uvcview etc all have problems although lately I have been able to uvcview to capture/display

But regardless, from my searches something with webcam's broke around 11.10 release and continues.

Skype for instance has a work-around being published about using a PRE-LOAD for the ia386 code.

Again, in my ignorance .. I suspect combo of multi-arch and Unity.

On latest x64 bit Debian it all works... so to a DEV that should also be a clue as to what changes from there to Ubuntu.

affects: firefox (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

OK, also the mine problem is not Firefox related.
I have the problem with the 12.04 - 64 bit edition of *Ubuntu*.
I don't know problems about 11.10 because my last revision was 11.04 and
the webcam worked fine for a lot of time, also with Skype.
I'm not using Unity, I actually use Gnome

Masoruc
