Hard disk errors : failed command read fpdma queued

This started hapednning suddenly after a reboot, the systema has bbeen woriking perfectly since two years ago.

At first I thought it is a hardware problem, but checking around it seems it may be a bug.

The system is very slow but I managed to report this bug from within it. So far I cannot see any data corruption, everything seems to be here, but it is so slow that it is uselless

I disabled acpi in this boot as to one suggestion in a previous bug, but of course it does not have any effect.

In this case it may be a hardware problem after all, I ran the Diagnostics that Dell provides at boot up, and it is reporting a Hard Disk error. So I will investigate further but mark as Invalid for the time being.

Thanks, I hadn't marked it as Invalid as I'm still investigating. In my opinion we have to keep an eye on this issue, maybe it is a combination of hardware failure with bad reaction of the Linux kernel. Surprisingly I left the system running for a while and suddenly "dmesg" stopped reporting the error and the system came back to normal. I have rebooted a couple of times afterwards with no problems so far (of course it may fail any time now).

All disk checks, except for the Dell diagnostics that I mentioned in my previous comment, report that the disk is perfectly fine, no errors found, so this does not seem to be a purely hardware-related problem.

I see the same problem on a fresh 12.04 install on a Dell E6410 with a SSD.

Installation impossible.

I've had freeze ups for a while now and I seem to remember it occurring after a kernel upgrade a while back. Would generally have to reboot and sometimes boot from a live install CD to fix disk errors. The recent upgrade to Lucid kernel 3.0.0-19 seems to have remedied my situation.
