Good to hear that a solution is very near now.
I am working with 12.04, so I will indeed test the bug fix in proposed as it is released.
With the tray icon activated (i.e. "Enable systray quicklauncher" checked under Options - LibreOffice - memory) I was not able to trigger the issue when opening and closing documents. However, a very easy way to trigger the bug, with or without "Enable systray quicklauncher" checked, is for me
- open two libreoffice documents by launching them from nautilus
- In libreoffice, Use File - Exit (that presumably also closes the LO quicklauncher)
- lauch a libreoffice document from nautilus: it is not anymore associated with the Unity launcher.
