I have this problem on my Gutsy install using the -intel driver.

IMHO it can't be the software, because I do not have Totem currently installed. (purged)

However, I believe I did run Totem before I purged it.
Whether I use mplayer or VLC with xv, I will get the contrast/saturation/brightness problem, and I have to use xvattr to correct this every time I open a media file.

What more info is required to make it clear where the issue occurs?
