My bad. I had a mistake in the spelling of the lock name used by hal-lock.

In gparted.in file the lock taken by hal-lock is wrong. The lock taken is
"org.freedeskdesktop.Hal.Device.Storage" while it should be
"org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Storage".

The bug is fixed in the GParted 0.4.3 release.
