I'm not sure what is pure gnome. It happens to me on 14.04, with http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3/ubuntu and http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3-staging/ubuntu enabled, but WITHOUT Ricotz testing PPA. The unity-settings-daemon is not installed on my system.
