That Wikipedia article is long. Is your complaint that most computers have one Super key and it's on the left side of the keyboard, which is also where most of the secondary keys are?

Aside from mnemonics, I think one of the reasons that all of the commands are on the left side is so they can be used in conjunction with the mouse. Most users are mouse-dependent so they're faster if they don't need to take their hand off the mouse. Typing Super-l with one hand is impossible for most people.

I think one reason tab is not available is because it would interfere with the Scale Window Title Filter plugin. With this plugin enabled, when you invoke Scale (expose) you can type to isolate windows with titles that match your query. Although, I guess few windows would have tab in their title. It may be a useful exception. Regardless, you can use the arrow keys instead.

You can use CompizConfig Settings Manager to change Spread (Scale), Workspace Switcher (Expo), Show desktop/maximize/minimize (General Options), and others.
