Barry, I completely agree with your points, but I feel as though I should direct you to the Ayatana mailing list to discuss this issue. It's been mentioned above that a discussion over this "design decision" should be brought up on the mailing list. You seem to be quite active in it Ayatana list, so I'm not sure why you're wasting your very good points on this bug report that the benevolent dictator doesn't follow. This issue couldn't be address and *fixed* soon enough, but I don't believe this is the correct outlet.
