No joy with current testing packages. Are there meant to be some configuration options to deal with this? Like, an option to choose which monitor to display on?

At least with the testing packages the position is dynamically honored by using the force_monitor settings, but this doesn't change the screen reservation location, and means running a script to update the position (and perform mathematics) based on what monitors are connected.
