Comment 3 for bug 539444

I'm seeing the same behaviour with the Notifcation Area applet (not the daemon). When I mouse over the blank spaces, a tool tip from pidgin appears (indicating an new message).

Ubuntu 10.04, compiz. Running with a bar 32px wide and two columns in the notification area.
