You still have the issue of sorting out what distro the user is on and how to handle unsupported distros. I don't believe that Amarok its self does what you're talking about. It's done through Ubuntu's (I'm assuming that's what you use) codec installer. If you started Amarok on a different distro thtat won't necessarily happen.
