Same issue here on HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx
5.8.6-1-MANJARO x86_64

With low quality earphone, don't have crackling
With high quality earphone, have crackling in left side
This high quality earphone doesn't have any crackling on other devices.

Robertjjoynt's solution fixed the problem.
