I'll go ahead and try this as well. I just found out that it still happens without screensaver. I use a small script to use my computer as an alarm it uses the following:
rtcwake
pm-suspend
xset dpms force off
Not sure which one is causing it to still happen but I'll try disabling VBlank. Thanks for the advice Trevino
