I built an amd64 Precise test kernel with the previously mentioned commit reverted. The test kernel is located at:
http://people.canonical.com/~jsalisbury/lp961482

Can you confirm that this test kernel still boots? If it does, that would be the test kernel to run, until this bug is resolved.
