I have the same issue and tried to debug it a little bit. I traced calls
to the function gs_fade_set_alpha while running gnome-screensaver with
"--gdk-debug=misc,events --gtk-debug=misc". At each breakpoint I printed the value of the alpha-argument to gs_fade_set_alpha. Albeit gdk receives the
keyboard-events gnome-screensaver keeps on fading.
