Additional observation as regards hirsute: Different behavior depending on from where the installation is started:

* The issue is present if I press "Install Ubuntu" from ubiquity's welcome screen, i.e. without trying Ubuntu.

* The issue is not present if I press "Try Ubuntu" and later start the installation via the desktop icon in the live session.
