When booted live-only, I wiped the casper-rw partitions's upper directory except the home subdirectory, and things started to work again in Lubuntu daily :-)

I don't know exactly what was causing the problem, but this action solved it. (But we do not know if you have the same problem even if the symptoms look the same.)
