i think recheck is needed for this bug, because in my environment its working fine.

Also check in your external network whether you are able to resolve the hostname.

In my devstack setup, /etc/neutron/dhcp_agent.ini:
dnsmasq_local_resolv = True

For more information:
https://ask.openstack.org/en/question/82095/instances-cant-ping-servers-by-their-domain-name/

My environment output:

cooldharma06: I have re-checked, the same bug still happens. In my setup, /etc/neutron/dhcp_agent.ini: dnsmasq_local_resolv = True and even set dnsmasq_dns_servers = 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, nothing change.

I follow this doc:
https://docs.openstack.org/newton/networking-guide/config-dns-res.html

Could you provide some extra information (dhcp config, etc..)

@kien, kindly check the following things in your environment:

1. check whether your DNS getting resolved from your host machine
  ping openstack.org
2. If it resolves, check the neutron configuration.

By default devstack configurations are enabled to resolve dns. So i think might be the problem with your host machine/network.

kindly refer the following link for neutron(my devstack env) related configuration.
http://paste.openstack.org/show/622290/

If you want any further info. happy to help you.
