Bug Description

If a user removes a link, after closing and reopening Zim the link reappears.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Enter text that makes a link in Zim, such as <email address hidden>
2) Right-click and remove link
3) Close Zim
4) Reopen Zim

The link is back!

This is intended behavior. Text that matches an URL or an email address will always show up as a link. Only formatting as verbatim can prevent this. Relates to the discussion about the escaping of wiki syntax - so please document in the development wiki.

Then why is there an option to remove links?

I use Verbatim for code, but there are many other places where I have links appearing which are not code.

I would personally like to see an option to disable all rendering, perhaps on a per-notebook basis, but ideally per-file or per-filesystem-branch. But probably not part of Jaap's intended use-cases for Zim.

I can see a fix for this specific issue in simply preventing the UI from pretending to the user that it's possible to edit that sort of link.
