Bug Description

This is explained in the help: In most cases this is identical to "Quit". However when the TrayIcon plugin is enabled closing the notebook only hides the window.

In most cases this confuses the user, who doesn't read manuals. It'd be nice to disable the "Close" menu item unless the plugin is enabled.

According to the Gnome HIG both should be present, however behavior should be different then is currently implemented:

Close should close current document (so current notebook window)
Quite should close all documents (so all open notebooks + exit tray icon ?)

If we implement it like this the tray icon "hide" option doesn't fit anymore.

Although I noticed that some Gnome programs like Nautilus break the HIG themselves. Nautilus has Close (^W) and Close All Windows (Shift-^W).

Not sure if / how this needs to change in zim.

I don't mind the behavior, I'd just prefer if a menuitem that doesn't make sense in the current context, like Close when there is no tray, weren't sensitive.

Need to make Close and Quit more intuitive, but no good idea yet how to do this.

Changed in zim:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Low

I think that distinction between Quit and Close makes sense only if one is using more than one notebook. When someone uses only one notebook (and I think that most people do), these options works virtually the same.

So maybe zim should check how many notebooks there are, and if it's only one, it should close on Quit (not minimize), and else it should behave as it actually is. Of course this will lead to different behaviours fgor the same options for different users.

The other possibility is to change Quit behaviour somewhere in options (I think that Tray plugin options is nice place). It could be default for zim to behave as it does now, but could be changed to close instead of minimize zim on Quit.

I think that actual behaviour is confusing for most of the users. When there is tray plugin enabled, both close and quit works the same, so one might think that there is no need for two options in menu.
