Bug Description

System: Ubuntu karmic 9.10
Python version is (2, 6, 4, 'final', 0)

Copy and paste into Zim 0.44 does not work from some programs. This seems to affect java applications (tested with JabRef and jMemorize). Neither middle-click paste nor <Ctrl>v will put content into Zim. Pasting from java into applications other than Zim works fine, pasting from non-java applications into Zim works fine, too.

Steps to reproduce: Copy and paste content from e.g. JabRef into Zim with either middle click or <ctrl>c and <ctrl>v.

I'll be glad to provide further information if needed.

Can you run zim in debug mode with the -D switch ? This should produce
output what copy-paste "targets" are offered by the java application.

Strange, that suggests the java app is not offering any data to be pasted. Since you run ubuntu, I assume other programs you used are gtk based as well - or do you run KDE?

Will need to install a java app myself to test this.

@holstener: Could you confirm whether this bug is still present under Ubuntu 10.4 ? We have seen some similar bugs with the clipboard disappear after upgrading. Hoping that is the case for this one as well. If not please let me know.

Zim 0.56 still has this bug. For example: copying from jEdit and pasting into Zim does not paste anything. But I can paste to Gedit from jEdit without problems.

What does the debug log say - same as mentioned in comment above ?

Copy-paste issues like this are a "handshake" issue between two
applications. Since I don't know the implementation details of e.g.
jedit, is hard to judge what goes wrong.

With Zim 0.57 the bug persists. Debug log says the same:

DEBUG: Action: paste
DEBUG: Targets available for paste: None, we want parsetree

System: Linux Mint 12 (based on Ubuntu 11.10).

Thanks for the update - put the status to confirmed, although I have no idea how to fix. Sounds gtk generic to me.

I don't know if this would work, but a thought might be to detect Java.

Alternatively if this is truly gtk generic, then it might be an upstream bug and hence a wontfix.
