Bug Description

I am using WinCompose [0] to type various Unicode characters under Windows.
zim is the only application I have found so far that does not like this kind of input.

When I do this:
- open any note, put focus/cursor on text area
- try to insert a Unicode character, e.g. «ß», by typing <Compose> <s> <s>

what happens (instead of just inserting the character) is:
- in the text area, an underlined text representation of the Unicode character appears, like "u00DF"
- if any character of the Unicode sequence also has a similar keyboard shortcut like <Ctrl> <char>, that shortcut is triggered - for example for u00D(F), the (F) triggers <Ctrl> <F> and opens the search dialog
- the incomplete unicode sequence is remove from the text area after the dialog is closed

Note that for some characters it works fine (e.g. «ä» (u00E4)), but not for «ß» (u00DF), «ö» (u00F6), etc.

Afraid I don't know what to change in zim in order to fix this. Maybe you could run zim with --debug and see if there any hints in the error log to what is happening ?

Most of the issues reported above will be fixed in the next version of WinCompose (0.9.5).

However there is still one problem in Zim which can be easily reproduced: Unicode codepoints above U+FFFF cannot be entered using the Ctrl-Shift-U method. In the Gimp, pressing Ctrl-Shift-U then 10280 then Enter will print Unicode character U+10280 “𐊀”. In Zim, the same sequence will print replacement character 0000.

Any other sequence below U+FFFF such as 246F will work properly in Zim.

Please report via GitHub as a new issue. We are no longer using launchpad
for this project
