Bug Description

When using Open Another Notebook the notebooks are listed in different (random) order each time.

This make is harder to select the one you (or I) want since the last time the notebook was on the top of the list and now it's not!

I attach some images that shows the problem.

I've noticed the random order problem too and found this existing bug report.

One way that gives me sort of a work-around is to order the notebooks list
every time by clicking the header "Notebook" of the 1-column-table "Open Notebook - Zim".
Then at least you get a fix lexicographic ordering.

I'm using zim 0.60, 0.62 and 0.63. My observation with random notebooks.list
ordering is only related to the new zim 0.63. Before you could drag and drop
notebooks to set a wanted sequence order.

(Ubuntu 14.04).

Hi.

Just wondering about the difference between 2 computers, both running Ubuntu 14.04 / zim 0.63.
a) zim 0.63 installed at /usr/bin
   no problem, works as expected
b) zim 0.63 extracted into $HOME/bin/zim-0.63
  here the problem exists.

Did not find the reason for the different behaviour.
In case b) I've even manually edited and reordered the file
  $HOME/.config/zim/notebooks.list
to look the same as in a), but it is overwritten thereafter again in random order.

Hint: Ubuntu 16.04; zim 0.65

Starting "zim --list" always overwrites the notebooks.list just before the dialog "Open Notebook - Zim" in a total unknown order.

Starting "zim" (without --list) gives the default notebook, but opening the dialog "Open Notebook - Zim" immediately leads to the same result:
DEBUG: Wrote <UnixFile: /home/awehler/.config/zim/notebooks.list>
DEBUG: Opening dialog "Open Notebook - Zim"

Only the debug message here is formatted a bit different: <UnixFile: ...notebooks.list>

1) Start zim
zim -D --standalone --list # select wanted page from menu
2) Open Another Notebook
Reorder list as needed (this works by drag and drop)
   Ok saves the notebooks.list
   DEBUG: Wrote /home/awehler/.config/zim/notebooks.list
3) Quit zim
notebooks.list is unchanged and good as saved before.
4) Restart zim same way as before
zim -D --standalone --list # select wanted page from menu
   DEBUG: Loading config from: /home/awehler/info/Info_Zim/ZimDemo/notebook.zim
   DEBUG: Wrote /home/awehler/.config/zim/notebooks.list
DEBUG: Opening dialog "Open Notebook - Zim"

Changed in zim:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium
