Bug Description

When I'm try to insert the sample equation from Zim Help, preview doesn't work, and no valid result, just an error-icon, and when I'm click OK button, Zim ask:
"An error occurred while generating the image.
Do you want to save the source text anyway?"

Windows 8.1 Update 1 (x64)
Zim: 0.62 (Windows precompiled binary, i don't know which python and GTK+ version, but I get same result an other machine with python 2.7.8, with pygtk-all-in-one 2.24.2)
latex: basic-miktex-2.9.5105

To test please try a very simple equation where whitespace does not matter, like "\sin(\omga)" - this will show whether basics work or not.

"\sin\(omga)" - without qoutes, doesn't work, if I'm click to Show logs button, I can see the next log (Windows 7 x64 SP1, Zim 0.63 (from python source), MikTex 2.9):

Hmm, so not the same issue than.

From the log I can make two conclusions:
1/ the latex command is found and running - so no issue with executable
path etc.
2/ somehow the equation is not recognized

What I wonder about now is whether we need to change the template with
latex packages etc. The template is in "plugins/equationeditor.tex" it is
editable form zim menu "Edit --> Templates"

Afraid my knowledge of latex is not enough to suggest how to fix it.

Regards,

Jaap

• I suggest you revisit the Win 7 example (comment #3):

\omga is a typo; LaTeX chokes on it. The macro should read \omega.

• In test cases where no log is produced at all: Might be a PATH issue or a consequence of Windows security becoming more restrictive with each release. If the same application combo (Zim/Python/TeX distro) works on one version of Windows but not on a newer one, this seems likely.
